SUNNY DAYS AFTER SNOW
Today we will have fresh snow in the Western half of the Alps and in France 20 centimeters can fall. From Sunday the clouds will disappear and the sun will shine brightly. It is cold with sub-zero temperatures and in the nights it will be below -15 degrees on large scale. In the course of the week the temperatures increase, but it will stay sunny. From Friday there are more clouds and some precipitation is possible again.
A precipitation zone arrives from the west and will bring snow in France, Switzerland and Western Italy. Snow will also fall as snow in the valleys and in Italy above 500 meters. France receives the most snow and 20 centimeter is possible. In the night to Saturday the snow shifts to the southeast and snow could fall in the Apennines.
Sunny weekend
Saturday could be cloudy in most valleys, but above 1500 meters it is mostly sunny and you can look over the clouds. Sunday brings more sun and will be a nice day to go outside. Because of the stronger solar radiation in February, sunscreen is recommended. Despite that, it remains cold with frost in most valleys during the day. Because of the clear skies and little wind, the temperatures could drop very far to values between -15 and -20 degrees. In some valleys it cool down below -30 degrees.
Temperature increase next week
The sunny weather seems to remain in the Alps until Thursday. The temperature starts to increases from the start of next week and on Wednesday the freezing level will be around 1500 meters in the western part of the Alps and 1000 meters in Austria. In the valleys we find temperatures of 0-7 degrees during the day. In the nights it will be 5-10 degrees below zero and locally below -15 degrees.
Snow chances later in the week
From Friday, frontal systems come closer to the Alps and some precipitation is possible especially in France and Switzerland. With that, it wonβt be as sunny as coming days. Probably the temperatures will stay around the same values during the day, but the nights will be less cold than previously.
