FORECAST FRIDAY: SUN AFTER SNOW
This weekend we find sunny weather in the Alps. Since some snow has fallen today, the slopes in especially the northern Alps are of very good quality! After the weekend there are more clouds, and some snow arrives from the west. This will mostly fall in France and Italy, but maybe also in the Dolomites. Lots of snow can be expected in Southwestern Norway but obviously it is not so sunny there.
Sun after snow
Today especially the north of the Alps got some fresh snow even in the valleys. It is mostly cloudy, but from the west the clouds become thinner and eventually the sun breaks through. This marks the weather for this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will be very sunny in most of the Alps with only some veil clouds. Therefore it is a perfect weekend to make some pictures of the snow covered landscape and a blue sky in the background!
The temperature in the lower areas is around 5 degrees on Saturday in most of the Alps with a freezing line at 1000-1500 meters. In the southwestern Alps it is milder with a freezing line of 1500-1900 meters height. The wind is not very strong, which makes it comfortable to have lunch outside. However, the sun is becoming stronger in February, so sunscreen becomes increasingly more important these days!
Snow chances next week
From Monday on, more clouds arrive from the west and some snow will fall in the French Alps and Western Italy. That is good news for these areas since some slopes started turning green. The snowline will be about 1000 meters. Possibly the precipitation will extend further to the east, bringing a snow dump to the Dolomites as well.
Most snow for Norway
This winter most storms go in the direction of Norway and also the coming days this is the case. Directly along the coast precipitation falls as rain, but a little further inland large amounts of snow can fall. In the mountains east of Bergen and Stavanger locally 80 centimeters of snow can accumulate this weekend.
