SKI AREA IN THE SPOTLIGHT: ROSA KHUTOR RUSSIA
Rosa Khutor is one of the 4 resorts in the area of Sochi, a Russian city on the Black Sea shore. After holding the Olympic Games in 2014 this resort became the most developed place in Russia for skiing and snowboarding.
With the highest peak 2509m Rosa offers both alpine zone and forest freeride, as well as over 100 km of slopes on North and South sides of the mountain. The North is kind of a severe place while the South is a sunny more of a fun area with lots of beautiful pine trees.
Winter season usually lasts from mid-December to mid-April, the Black Sea and Southern location effect the snow: it is fluffy and heavy, good snowfalls can last a week, but then there can be several weeks without snowfalls at all. This is the perfect time to go to the local snowpark! Up to 6-7 rails in a run and usually 2 kickers in a row make this park a good place for practicing freestyle. Besides there is βThe Stashβ park in the forest as well.
Rosa Khutor offers evening riding and also sunrise riding is usually affordable for extra pay.
HOW TO GET HERE:
The easiest way to come to Rosa Khutor is to fly to Sochi through Moscow and then take a bus, a train or a taxi (~40 min).
WHERE TO LIVE:
There is a village in the area, called Krasnaya Polyana, it is a 10 min drive from all resorts. It is cheaper to live there, but the resorts also offer both luxurious and cheap accommodation on 560 and 1100 levels and it is a lot more comfortable to get to the slopes right away.
SKI PASSES:
Since 2019-2020 all four resorts have a united ski pass, which gives an opportunity to ski in different places every day, besides 2 of the resorts are connected by slopes. It is also possible to buy a ski pass for each resort separately.
