POSSIBLE RETURN OF WINTER NEXT WEEK
Last day’s warm air was spread over the Alps and will still be there this weekend. Especially the French Alps will get some precipitation. The eastern side of the Alps is mostly dry and sometimes sunny. After Wednesday, it seems to become colder and the snow chances increase. Fresh snow before Christmas is definitely possible in many areas in the Alps. Even the Ardennes and Sauerland could experience a white Christmas!

Mild temperatures this weekend
During the weekend it is mostly dry and especially Austria could enjoy sunny periods. The temperatures are higher than usual with more than 10 degrees in some valleys. On Saturday, precipitation starts to fall in the Southwestern Alps. In most valleys, it will rain, but above 1500 meters height it will snow. Also, Switzerland, Italy, and Western Austria will receive a few centimeters of snow on Sunday and Monday. In the French Alps, up to 15 centimeters of fresh snow is possible till Monday.
Possible temperature decrease after Wednesday
From Wednesday the forecast becomes uncertain, but the majority of the models go for decreasing temperatures. A nice snow dump just before Christmas is also possible. Still, it is a question what the height of the snowline will be. Nevertheless, winter scenarios are promising for lower regions, like Sauerland and the Ardennes.
