FORECAST FRIDAY: CHANGING WEATHER AND MILDER CONDITIONS
After a prolonged sunny period with often blue skies and fresh snow, the weather in the Alps will change the coming days. Warmer air is brought in causing a rising snowline. For those who love real coldness, Canada is the place to be. Despite the increasing temperatures in the Alps, there is currently sufficient snow in most ski areas to enjoy during the holidays. Also in Sauerland and Harz snow can be enjoyed. The weather for the coming days you read in this forecast Friday.
Cloudy, a shower and sometimes sun
Today clouds are present, but during the afternoon the sun may breakthrough as well. This is especially the case in the Southern Alps, and it will mostly remain dry until the afternoon. Later in the day, the chances of a shower will increase. In most valleys, daytime temperatures rise above the freezing point which makes the snow thaw a little here, but during nighttime, it freezes so the slope conditions remain good.
Variable weather, better conditions in 2022?
Also this weekend the clouds will dominate and regular precipitation passes over. In most places, the snowline varies between 1300 and 1900 meters. In the lower-lying areas, the precipitation will fall in the form of rain. The amounts of snow that fall are not large amounts, but in most cases a few centimeters.Β
Next week, the changeable and mild weather continues with a daily chance of a showers and higher up some snow. Later next week, the weather looks to become more stable with sunny spells. Moreover, it also seems to be getting even more mild then. It remains to be seen, but 2022 seems to be off to a nice and sunny start.

In Winterberg you can ski or practice other snow activities, but especially in the lower parts of Winterberg, the snow can be found in the form of artificial snow. The coming few days will bring a little fresh snow, but next week it will thaw considerably.
Snow and (extreme) coldness in Canada
For the true lovers of freezing cold, you’re in the right place in parts of Canada. Especially in the central and northern part of Canada people are experiencing (extreme) coldness right now. In Calgary, the maximum temperature will not exceed -20 degrees this weekend. Moreover, snow is scheduled for the next few days. In combination with a present wind, the snow could easily be fluffed up. After the weekend, nighttime temperatures may drop here even below -30 degrees.
